Age didn't used to bother me, I'm a young 60 fit, cycle hike, brain still thinks I'm 20, body starting to slow up a bit, .
But christ 60 depresses the he'll out of me. Next milestone if I get that far is 70 and that will come quickly. Then knackers yard.
No wife , no kids , no idea where I'm heading ,
Anybody else bothered about getting old ?
Nothing I can do but try to make more of life , no idea how.

It’s not really old. My father was still very fit at 80, climbing ladders in and out of bins etc. But he didn’t have any kind of chronic conditions like arthritis which have finished off other family members in their 50’s. I’m still reasonably fit but joints are becoming troublesome. If they get much worse than that will be a limiting factor on the physical side for me, though I’m trying less inflammatory diets etc. With luck and a sensible regime I see no problem carrying on till 80.

I turned 60 in February and I have to admit I allowed myself to start to feel old. Part of it was my age and part of it was related to chemo and radiotherapy I'd had the previous year.
Bizarre as it sounds I am now feeling myself get younger by the day. I am over the "60" label and am as fit and healthy as I am likely to be post cancer treatment. There's feck all wrong with me now other than being overweight.
Haven't got time for feeling old or ill any more I am too busy thinking of what I can get on with for the next 20 years or so before I decide to slow down a bit.

My point, it is all in your mind. If you want to be old you will be, if you want to feel a bit younger and go on doing whatever you want to do then get on with it because the only thing stopping you is yourself.

I am expanding my goose flock, planting more orchards, planting hazel coppice that I won't even start harvesting for 7 years. I am buying new equipment and expanding my business as much as I can cope with and getting my son very much involved too. No time to be feeling old and unable, you are a long time dead.

not old really but time to think about the future and do something while you can.
I retired at 63 (71 now) and faffed around until wifey retired we decided to travel both UK and abroad and spend some of our pensions etc, so far loved it and should have retired earlier (1968 would have done)
you need a plan which works for you ours is travel and sport, however I can’t see me doing some of our trips in ten years time due to health and obtaining insurance.
Retirement is brilliant for us but we need to do things.
60s not old but 70 isn’t that far away get on with whatever it is. And enjoy it.

Its not the age its the condition. I need (well would prefer to have) £1,000 worth of dental work & may need some laser eye treatment in the future due to glocoma.

I'm not quite there, but like you single & no kids. I do have two nephews & a niece 15, 7 & 9 they make a big difference & keep me young.

I'm actually ok with it, still harvesting veg & a decent sized small bale business plus general work on 220 acres. I've three part time helpers for veg planting, today no one could come so went & hand planted 3,500 plants.

I've more disposable income & freedom that I've ever had, enjoy fantasy shopping because I can afford things that I'm too sensible to buy

I've no wish to retire, but can afford to farm on my terms.

I will at some point stop growing veg & supplying the small bale trade.

But will continue at my own pace I've long had ambitions to do a major amount of drystone wall restoration, hedge laying, fitting new gates & drainage & have a state of the art workshop to restore CASE JXU tractors in (with help I'm not a great mechanic).

70 isn't old I'm afraid guys. Not unless you want it to be.

As I have written in other threads, I am near staggered by the number of fit and well 80+ year old people I have met in my travels who still live perfectly normal and active lives. I am convinced that keeping oneself busy and finding things to do is part of that, the mindset and the brain surely have some role in this process. Before Christmas I stopped in a nearby convenience store for some discretionary spending I hoped the finance lady wouldn't find out about and the guy behind the counter happened to notice my badge and lanyard and the mystical fruit juice thing I had and began my mentioning how X and Y was healthy for you etc etc etc and then dropped in that he was 84. I don't estimate people's ages any more as it's basically an irrelevant number to me and I'd never want to cause offence but he did surprise me with how sprightly he was. 84 and still working 50+ hours a week. Better than sitting at home and watching Countdown until the reaper gets down to you on the list I suppose.

I spent 20 minutes this evening talking to an old boy in Lidl car park. He's 95, career army, and had his girlfriend sat in the car waiting for him to go dancing for the night!
He had a stick, but wasn't leaning on it while we spoke, including him telling me how fast his car went.
If I'm going to live that long, I'd only want to do it like that!

60 isn't old anymore.

As above, you need the right mindset and a reason to wake up in the morning. If you're at all unhappy about your current situation, now's the time to change it or you'll regret it when you're actually "old".

no idea where I'm heading
You need to fix this. Travel, volunteer, find a companion (in whatever form that may be), take up a hobby or try your hand at something you've always wanted to do.
