Is Defra reckless and short sighted cutting Farm BPS payments and replacing with lower production environmental whilst the third world starve?

Don’t worry, he’s in India just now and will come back with a proposed trade deal that will see even more of our technology sector outsourced to India, while proclaiming a ‘great trade deal for the UK’.

Truth is, of course, that India couldn’t give a shite about doing a trade deal with the UK unless it was totally on their terms. Where are all those countries that were meant to queue up to do trade deals that were favourable to the UK? They don’t exist and never have except in the fevered imagination of those that have dumped our existing very favourable trade deals with our near neighbours.

Either we trade with India or Russia does.. do some more maths!!
Like I said, India couldn’t give two hoots about trading with us. Russia can currently supply them with cheap oil and probably plenty of wheat. What have we got that they need and that Russia cannot provide? India has nothing much to give us that we need apart from doctors. If I were building a fairly sophisticated web site at the moment, before any trade deal, I could choose web designers in the UK at £100/hour and upwards or an Indian, over the internet, that will do the same work for £8/hour.

India has a wheat surplus they also export a lot of exotic fruit and veg to the UK and as 5% of the UK and most of the cabinet are of Indian origin there is quite a demand as for web design if you’re paying £8 an hour then you’re probably paying a lot more than you need to.

So why would they need to negotiate a trade deal with us? They have all the trade with us that they want as it is. We really have nothing they need that we are not already supplying.

India is the fourth largest exporter of beef in the world. Other than whisky I’m not sure what we export as they are pretty self sufficient but the UK is a great place for their billionaires to put their money. And now we’re short of oligarch cash you know the rest.

If you are happy to pay Indian wages don't be unhappy when you are paid Indian prices for your farm produce....

I never said I was. In fact I was hinting that they can and already do undercut British labour. I don’t need a web site.
Actually I suspect that we are already paid Indian prices for our farm produce. The ‘world market’ has generally been higher than the British market for many categories of produce for the last 18 months or so.

Government support has kept prices down. You can take the environmental cash or grow crops. The prices are going up and if people don’t buy so many inputs their prices will stabilize.
