made some dead standing red clover hayee sort of stuff last year, never turned it, looked bloody awful, and cattle cleared the lot 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

l would think it would make some nice silage, we have included some in the pit, but not enough to take a sample. One would suppose its needs an additive, to help it ensile properly. Yield was fine.

I’d have thought it would be possible, if you had a couple of weeks over 30 degrees. Certainly not reliable enough to plan on doing it though.

Cracking grazed fodder and/or haylage though, with minimal growing costs after establishment.

Surely there are herbal lays and there are herbal lays,

"This action’s aim is to provide varied root structures. This purpose of this is to help improve and maintain the soil’s structure, carbon, biology and fertility."

You must establish and maintain herbal leys with a mixture of grasses, legumes, and herbs on the land entered into this action.

Must surely be possible to put together a mix of grasses, legumes and herbs that would provide a varied root structure but also make a decent hay crop and last 3 years or preferably 6 to have potential to stretch it into a second SFI (if it still exists in 3 years...)
