Our house is on the side of a hill and at almost 800ft above sea level you would not think flooding would be a problem. However years ago the scullery was fitted with a large cat flap at the lower end to drain out floodwater coming down into the house from the hills behind us.How long before searches for mortgages have to declare previous history of water ingress? Fed up hearing disaster stories of new builds on flood plains and over spills. You wouldn't buy a car if it turned out you couldn't use it when it rained, why spend 30 times as much and not check your house is sound.
