is there an alternative to rat bait?

Mk4 Fenn traps. I rarely use any bait these days, instead have a dozen tunnels with traps in around the perimeter of the buildings and normally catch about 50-70 rats over the course of the the winter. Not much good if you have a mouse problem though.

And I think you are meant to get the traps down before the rats arrive as the first arrivals act as scouts and lay trails where it is safe to run. Don't know if that is true but it does seem to work and if they are left, they are certainly very hard to catch.

Had good sucess with well placed glue boards in the grainstore and workshops. Just need to be really carefull that non targets can’t get stuck on them.

Bought some fenn traps but the springs were to strong for me to set!!

I'm sure I once saw someone on here volunteering their services with an air rifle for vermin control;)
And the best bit...... it was free :ROFLMAO:

Seriously though, I've had reasonable success thinning the population with an air rifle when they first move into an area. It's the big ones you tend to catch out in the open in the early evening, and poison takes care of the rest.
