I've never known my utah do a regenerate,as the duck says what's the point of the screen if you don't even notice it doing it.:scratchhead:

Think my Utah is regenerating every 100-120 miles. It's become a bloody obsession watching it!
Oil level has risen 4cm up the dipstick in 2000 miles.
Quite how Isuzu think that's acceptable I don't know.

being a landy driver i had no idea what you guys were on about with DPF's, till i googled it........

bit worrying!

If the regeneration is unsuccessful the extra fuel injected will not burn and will drain into the sump. Oil quality will deteriorate as a result of this and the level will rise. It is important that you check that the oil level does not increase above the maximum level on the dipstick as diesel engines can run on excess engine oil – often to the point of destruction.

are the other pick up's (or indeed any vehicle with DPF) suffering the same problems?
can't imagine diesel thinned oil is going to do the engine much good? :scratchhead:

am wondering if the twin turbo and non-close coupled dpf is loosing too much heat to be able to regen passively without lots of post injection?

it must be a sooty motor to be needing to regenerate so frequently anyhow??

Some older vehicles regenerate in the same way. My new Ranger does not. It has a fifth fuel injector in the exhaust, just in front of the DPF, so the extra fuel needed for a regeneration [which is very little normally] does not enter the combustion chamber.
It is probably a safe assumption that the latest Land Rover have the same system if only because they use the same engine as the Ranger.

I clocked the regen' on mine today going to and from Scotsheep at 70ish and 1,600 revs and it was cleaning every 170 miles. Perhaps if I'd done the same trip at 2,200 revs in 5th it may have lengthened the time between regenerations.

would be very interesting to know what the soot loading was. Still waaaay too often, not that it harms the dpf if regens are done before its full, but for oil dilution it certainly is.

PSA 2.2 in the LR has a dpf, obviously it works properly!

I've just noticed your intensional mistake. The PSA [Peugeot/Citroen] 2.2 is used in the Mondeo and RR Evoque but the engine used in the Defender is the Ford Puma 2.2 as used in the Transit, current Ranger and probably a few others.
Ford have two distinct 2.2 diesels for some reason. ISTR that the joint operation with PSA was not to be ongoing.
To confuse things further, I believe that the Puma has also been used in the Mondeo at some point.

kinda but not quite! The puma is was the ford hashed version of the psa lump suitable for longitudinal mounting than transverse. The block is externally different as well as the timing case, and injection equipment is more elabourate on the front drivers. But very similar otherwise.
