Harvesting sprouts today on a shallow free draining gritty soil over sandstone. Its still wet even on top of the raised beds.
Demand is pretty crazy too, hard times for some.

Because someone else has lost their crop to flooding.
Sad reality of farming, we only make good money when some poor sod has had a poor crop, even if that other farmer is at the other side of the world.

Shooting here today, and went down this afternoon to the confluence of the IDB brook and the R Tern. Lots of flooding on our brook meadows and on the adjacent poplar plantation. Result = Ducks, hundreds of Ducks.... and then the gale force winds moved them around and aboutup and down over the guns. However, the wind won really, but the few ducks that were dropped were some super birds.
On the other hand, ewes must have so miserable last night, I was woken by the storm rain battering on the windows at 4am, and was reading on my Tablet. Looked on the yard camera and saw that it was jammed with 70 odd of them, standing room only. Pleased they are away from where I had them....
Rain gauge packed up the other day so apparently we had 6mm overnight.... not from the water coming off the fields. Cellar submersible in action.
