I've jabbed myself with dectomax

Is dectomax one of those oil based injections that's super bad?
About 2 months ago I gave myself 2ml of heptavac, it swelled up, asked docs about it as I was there about something else, and they sent me to a&e [emoji26] who after a 4 hour wait wiped it and said "come back if it gets infected".
I would only have had about 0.2ml of dectomax for sheep. This after jabbing 60 twice in the last couple of weeks with this same needle.

Thanks, that's just what I wanted to hear. I've not managed to get myself with footvax........ Yet!
Don't! I did once. Didn't actually inject myself, just pricked my finger with the needle. Really bad swelling the following day, twice as big as normal. Almost had to go to the docs.

I'll try very hard not to do it! The heptavac swelled my finger up, with no movement in the first 2 knuckles, hurt like blazes. About 4 days later woke up and it was nearly back to normal, and since then I've not had any clostridial diseases might do second jab for full coverage [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Well cows have a 56 day withdrawal, and sheep have 63 days..........just no manufacturers recommendations for humans !!

......and P.S........buy another needle. Karma for not changing it over 2 weeks!!

Dectomax is fine.

Can get bad swelling if the needles dirty.

Don't use footvax here, but heard it's nasty.

Found out to my cost that trodax isn't pleasant :(

An afternoon at A&E on a drip of something to stop the heart flutters and muscle cramps, followed by a week of mega antibiotics and painkillers:oops:

That is scary! I am guilty of jabbing myself regularly, will remember to be more careful with Trodax in future.

For any needle stick injury you should wash it under warm running water and encourage it to bleed using normal soap not anti bac soap.

Don't suck the wound.

I needle stuck myself in the palm of my hand a couple of weeks ago with a used needle. NHS direct sent me to A&E but A&E said I'd done a good job with it I use had to keep an eye on it and if I got a red circle of about 2cm diameter round the wound or pain then to go back. Amd to keep it elevated as apparently the hand has less barrier to infection than other parts of the body.

Why not anti bac? I have used iodine in the past as not had immediate access to anything else including clean water.

Honestly I'm not sure. But that was what they told me so that's what I do?

Maybe the antibacterial takes away your own good bacterial defences? Not sure.

Also you shouldn't scrub it. Maybe that's to stop inadvertently driving infection in.

I guess most needle stick injuries the NHS see's are from needles potentially contaminate with Hep C or HIV so they might be more cautious

Anything else you recommend to get rid of scab and to quarantine sheep?

Sorry, I am not a vet. but I think if it is def Scab, then Cydectin LA is the most effective as has the longest protection period. I think that Downland do a cheaper version...Zermex? If you can lock sheep away from everything else and on clean pasture then fine, but we don't have that choice. It does have a huge withdrawal though.
