JD 3040 Steering Problem. Symptom: lumpy steering and intermittent steering lock up. Investigation revealed emulcified oil in the transmission and when the filter bowl under the belly of the tractor was removed it contained a quantity of water below the oil. Changed filter and oil and the problem has ceased. The tractor is not used on a regular basis and suspect condensation build up to have accumulated over time.
