Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere and I very much hope I do not offend his family by posting this here.
Jack Caley is very ill, many people from Holderness, will know him locally as a farmer, from posting on the old BFF board and the FWI forums. More importantly many livestock farmers will have had dealings with him form purchasing his Mill mixer Caravaggio machines, or even further back from his days as Drainage officer.
Although Jack never made the progression to TFF I am well aware that his son has carried the flag over.
Jack has always been very free with his advice to so many, he is one of life's true gentlemen and I am certain a very good farmer. Although I regularly clashed with Jack over Brexit, he was a committed leaver, I know that he was only ever doing, what he considered best for farming and the UK.
I am sure all those of us who know Jack in our own way, would like to send our thoughts and best wishes to Jack and his family.

It is with great sadness, I learnt that Jack gave up the struggle yesterday. His death was from a long standing issue and had no connection to todays problems.
Jack was a great gentleman and friend to all connected to agriculture, he will be sorely missed by all. I know that his family have read this posting and I would like to encourage any who knew him, to leave their thoughts and sympathies

Really very sorry to hear this; Jack was always a complete gentleman and often gave me many a kind and wise word. Knew him since way back to FWi days. I don't recall him ever having a cross word with anyone but who would debate and discuss at length which indicated his passion for the job all the more. A man of great foresight I always thought as he seemed as interested in the cutting edge of agriculture which often meant I forgot his vintage from time to time.

Sadly missed.

Like @Cab-over Pete i was only thinking of him in the last week or two. Always enjoyed his opinion and advice and if I recall correctly his importing from Italy threads on the old place. One of the few characters on these forums and in life who will be deeply missed by many, sometimes without realising it. These people pass having led amazing lives the like of which we will never see again in this day and age. We were all privileged to have enjoyed his wisdom!

Hi all,

Thanks for your kind words in this thread. We lost our father Jack Caley on March 18th, he had a number of relatively small health issues that were making mobility more challenging and were slowly catching up with him, however the final straw was we believe a burst ulcer. In typical father fashion he wrote and signed the DNR and said “I’ve had a good life, get on with your lives kids!”

He was at peace and was laid to rest with our mother Anne on March 27th. The ceremony was graveside and only 6 of us, these are unprecedented times! My brother in Spain could not travel, nor my Aunty Cora in Italy. I let our Italian manufacturer friends know that father had passed away, Gian Paulo (who father thought of as his fourth son) rang me the next day and said “if you get chance to lay your father to rest quickly then take it, we are stacking coffins in cold stores here!” We made haste!

He is well known as fetching the first Caravaggi Mobile mill Mixer from Italy back in 1984, I went with father in our old Bedford TK (GRH 244N), I have some photos which I will find and share. We took off the pig box and set off on an adventure which is still ongoing to this day!

Father had actually played a mega blindside on Mother, Mother has a sister Cora, (who still lives in Italy to this day) he asked our mother if she would like to go on holiday to see Cora, amazed at the eagerness of our very Yorkshireman Father being free with his holiday expenditure mother agreed straight away, it wasn’t until they got to northern Italy that he said “Anne, while we are here can we just pop into this factory I’ve heard about?” The rest is history!

One day I will write about our remarkable father and also one day we will celebrate a life well lived!

Thanks again for all your kind words. A friend from New Zealand repeated a saying they have down there, “A tall tree has fallen”, so true in this instance.

YA

Thank you Richard,
I hope it gives you and your family some comfort to know that Father was well regarded by many on here.
It doesn't matter too much how many were at the funeral, long as he knew that those who loved him did their best for him whilst he lived.
