Dropped Diego here for reflection last year. Reflection out yielded anything we've grown before but with rust pressures cost a lot to get there. Dropping reflection this year to grow more skyfall, rightly or wrongly as skyfall has only disappointed this harvest. Diego is making a return this year too, would drop some skyfall for Diego if skyfall seed wasn't already delivered.

I will all ways admit when I open my gob to quickly, in the spring I was saying I will never grow Reflection again because of YR, BUT after hitting it very early after T0 with another "well timed" T0.5 it is doing very well. So I have had a re think and will include a small area of Reflection on most of my clients areas. If it has to be one or the other then whichever you grow Diego or Reflection - you need to keep on top of the rust. What we can't be sure about it how bad a year it will be for yellow rust. But either way don't make it an acreage you will struggle to give a priority too. If it was a 2nd wheat situation I think I would go for Diego. Slightly better Septoria too.
The Yellow Rust score on Reflection is about as low as it can be, but if you kept on top of it then maybe that will be the better choice of the two.

Zan....where are you? What are your local markets, what is your storage/drying system....answer these questions first.
I'm not sure what difference any of that makes? They are both feed wheats?
Store all my own and dry as needed. Mid Lincs area.
i think Camgrain are using reflection in the clean wheat plant, should be worth more?Have you heard the term "grow for the market?" You are also twixed between Siskin and Skyfall.
G4's are making £5 prems in the right area, G3 softs, £9, again, in the right area. Skyfall is valued into mills over Siskin. I asked about storage as segregation may be an issue. I asked about drying as some farms look to cut off the field and send to boats on claims. Some farmers just want to produce a big bulk of feed wheat, other capture premiums.......now do you understand what difference it makes?

Can't decided if I should grow Jb or reflection this year, also growing sky fall and Siskin but can't decide between these two?
with the greatest respect.....I couldn't care what you grow, just suggested you consider your markets before planting.
Diego is trading at a £5/t premium around here. Well, it was last week anyway.
I get a premium for mine most years but I don't give it any extra N chasing higher proteins. Last year all my wheats sprouted in the ear so nothing was anything other than feed. Reflection should yield more which balances that out. I hope Reflection seed prices come down given its well documented yellow rust problems.
What market does Diego go into that gets this premium? What protein level does it need to justify the premium?
G4 biscuit wheat- 74/180/10.7 spec. but you need to be local to a mill, otherwise haulage kills it.
