Off to look at a second hand jcb 530 70 2003 just wonder if there is anything to look at that's been trouble some any good and bad point welcome

I’ve got a 2002 one and apart from 1 hose blowing where it had chaffed on the bolt that holds the bottom boom ram pin in its never been a bit of trouble, admittedly it’s only done 2550 hrs tho. And before any one asks if the hrs are genuine, I know they are as dad bought it brand new and it’s been here ever since !.

Don’t know if it’s across the board with them, Friend had one on a 2003 and had water issues and could never pin it down to what it was after replacing head gasket, water pump etc. Heater up when pushing up and on the road. Yard work it was fine.

Check it’s an Agri spec machine as plant ones are lower spec and don’t tip as far!

Mine is 1998 with Perkin engine brought it with 6000hr it now at 10000 fantastic bit of kit did have new joystick at about 8000 hour did have a complete engine rebuild about to 2 year ago about 2500 quid with I think cheap for today standard love it made so well before technology got to tec

The belt tensioner on side of engine are prone to wear but cheap to replace

We have a 2001 530/70, here from 2yo, now done 11300hrs.

It's been very little bother, but weak points:

Thermostat housing is plastic, they warp.
Heater controls are weak, but it's easy to access heater valve outside the cab
Exhausts rot at the bend
Headlight lenses soon lose their shininess
Geared starters transform starting if it's lazy, so bonus if it has one
Check it's been greased regularly, worst for wear is pain pivot pin, most neglected is base of the main lift RAM and back axle pivot (both sides)
Black paint often poor

Check the rear pin in the boom isn’t seized

If it is a Perkins engine machine they are very good , just pull the transmission dipstick out and smell it ,if it smells burned walk away
