JD 1140 Spool Noise

This vibration in the hydraulic pipes starts after a few cycles of the logsplitter, although it disappears on the upstroke, any ideas?

Hi.
You need to change your logsplitter spool valve for a closed center one.
Some you can fit a plug which converts it to a closed center.

Can you connect the return pipe on a free flow back to the tractor to prevent it returning through the tractor spool valve.

on the older ones 20s 30s there should be a nut on body of backend filter bowl, that is where you can tap in a return.

This will make things worse, as above return to filter bowl.
