JD 1630 Hand brake band replacement.

I have been trying to get my hand brake to adjust but I think the problem is the linings are goosed so I have ordered a new band. I was wondering if it is easy enough to change and if so any tips that may make life easier?

Now Then..
As I recall, you have an OPU cab. This will probably have to come off, or split the tractor at the transmission and wheel the rear axle out.
You may be able to do it by lifting the cab, however, the rockshaft is heavy and will need to be reinstalled with precision.
The band itself is kinda difficult to replace. I think the TM suggests removing the axle trumpets and differential....

I had this done on another JD, and it cost nearly £1000. There were a couple of other jobs as well in that, but it wasn't an easy job. Just glad I didn't start it without knowing what I was doing.

Yes OPU cab. Cab is off anyway so no problem there and the top cover/lift arms are off and I can see the diff gear box etc and hand brake band. So you are saying I can't just undo the band and replace it? To take the diff out looks like a massive job.

Yes I spotted that last night. I'll see what the new band looks like and see how I get on, hopefully they are saying to remove the diff for some other reason. Fingers crossed, if not I'll just have to do it.

I've replaced most bands without removing the differential. You’ll need a good screwdriver and some string or wire. Make sure that you remove the support screw (⅞" spanner & a screwdriver) from the bottom of the transmission case. It needs to be free for future adjustment. You may have to grind a bit off part of the band Assy to get it to fit up the front side of the Diff..
