JD 2040 Dash / Rev Counter Issue

Hi

I am getting an intermittent issue with the dash on the JD, whereby more often then not lately the rev counter does not move / the fuel gauge does not work / the temp gauge does not work - then after a while it comes on?
Additionally to this - if I turn the lights on, the right hand indicator light on the dash illuminates - so I assume a bad earth possibly for that one.

It does need a few bits looking at that I have found since aquiring it, but the dash area is the first point of call plus some replacement light units as they are not working (Brakes didn;t work but now they are).

So with this in mind - has anyone come across this before, and is it likely to be wiring related for the rev counter / temp gauge or alternator on its last legs as the battery warning light has come on twice now (but that could be hidden if the dash is not working correctly?

SG2 cab?
It will either be the fuse card burnt out or inserted incorrectly, the mutiplug on the front r/h side of the cab just under the bonnet or the solder joints on dash circuit board have cracked and need re soldering. All are usually a pretty straight forward fix, even re soldering isn’t to bad as long as you take your time.

Good timing..... I posted this on the JD dash light thread but I think it got to the bottom of the page.

An old thread but I have a relevant question.

our 6920 has some dash lights not working at initial on or when running: the engine heat, hazard and left indicator arrow (although the number 1 trailer light on the right does work with it even though there is no trailer plugged in). Hazard lights do work, Nothing else seems amiss and I think she's is getting heat but can't be sure without running a tester round, the buzzer has been a bit on and off for years but does still work with the indicators mostly.

I've tried exchanging for bulbs known to be good and giving them a twist to make sure there's contact but I suspect the trouble lies elsewhere.

Advice appreciated (y)

Yes, SG2 cab.

The dash should do a 2 second bulb check when you switch the ignition on. If there are some lights that don’t light up and you are sure the bulbs are good it will be an internal fault in the dash.
The bulb check function is part of the dash programming and isn’t affected by any other systems.
Cheapest option is DK electronics, £1200 for a new dash!

That did work, and flashed and gave a tick tick ( pardon the explanation) to highlight the ignition was on, but that has stopped now, until the dash works again.

1/6 the cost of the tractor for the dash... 🚜💨

Will use the old method of engine noise to gauge revs 🤣

My 3350 used to do this, a sharp slap on side of dash consol sorted it.
I cleaned fuse card, multiplugs earths etc but never quite cured it.
I did suspect the engine start knob.
It never got bad enough to stop the tractor working despite recurring over about 8 years.

These don't light with the bulb check so I guess it'll need sending off. Another job to the list!

Just check engine start switch has returned to the home position and the connectors on the back of the panels are fitted securely. If wiggling the connectors makes things work then the solder joints will want re-flowing.

Tractor starts on the button - but my ocd will not allow this to be ongoing. I will have to sort it.

That’s for a 6020 series dash, pretty sure yours will be a much cheaper fix 👍

Well its all coming out for a looksie. Is there anything in particular to be aware of for the removal of the fuse board (apart from disconnecting the batteries), or is simply take top cover off, and it simply comes off the connector?
