JD 2040 high range problem

Got asked to take a look at a 2040 that wont select high range but takes low and reverse in all gears. It is an sg2 with gears at side. Took lower pin out and gear stick moves into position freely so must be an issue in gearbox. Anyone come across this before?

Mine had that but it was a linkage issue in between the gear lever and the top of the gear box.

You can get to the selectors relatively easily thorough that plate in the floor as far as I recall.

Could be a jammed detent. I think that 2 of them can be accessed from outside the casing, but there is also one that interlocks between the two selector rod to prevent 2 ranges being selected together. It could be this one causing the issue, and it may be because the low range and reverse isn't quite in neutral when you try to select high range with the other rod.
