Just brought an old Jd 2030 just wondering what oil to use in the back end I was gonna just use hy guard but was told it was to thin for these oldies an was told to use a good quality super universal 15w 40 like Morris . What do others on here do?
Cheers ML

Hyguard is a 10w/30 grade whereas the super universals, that were around when she was built, are more toward 15w/30.
You'll save a few quid not using Hyguard, but no issue if you do. Both 30's at there top operating range.

Now Then..
If tha's plenty of money go with the Hygard,,, I've been putting Morris 'Super Universal' in those old things for 40 years with no problems!! If yours has Hi-Lo, I'd deffos put super universal in!!

As green & yellow as I am, I'd still put S/U oil in, spend the money you save on some tractor based treats to make it right... Ohh yes,,,, use genuine filters, nowt looks worse than a red or white filter on t' engine..

No this one hasn't got power steering but it's still pretty nice to steer,
This was brought cause you couldn't get a mf 165 or a ford but the john Deere was still more expensive than a mf .

That's right 1975 was a year of strikes at Ford and MF in Britain, inflation was roaring away and assembly workers needed more cash to stand still. But came at a time when farmers had money to spend from good crop prices.
But we bought the 2030 instead of a MF 168 because the 168 was no better for the driver than our trade-in 175, but the OPU on the John Deere was the best cab on the market at that time.
MF and Ford lost many customers in 75/76 due their lateness in getting their Q cabs to the market place.

I love my little 2030 just want some flotation wheels for it or some duals if anyone knows any for sale ! I've been told certain models of mf combine wheels fit straight on it , I think it was the 400 and 500 series combines like the 525 ect .

Re. MF 525 combine driven wheels:
As far as I can see, (not easy to measure with big hub.)
The hole is 2200, and diagonally across bolt holes 2750 with eight bolt holes?
That makes it identical to the front axle on a 4wd 2850/ smaller 6000 series JD's and some Massey/Class models.
So you may get away with floatation fronts from a 4wd????
