John Deere 2850

[JD2850 1991]

Hi looking some help I have a John Deere 2850 1991 with gears on floor with 7400 hours it’s just been fully serviced the problem is when costing or free wheeling there’s a whining noise seems to be on the right side of the tractor was there for a while then went away again but now back any ideas or input much appreciated. This only happened after the service all new filters and screening filter was checked at time of service???

i would check the half shaft bearings, jack her up and see if the wheel wobbles

Cheers it’s like a howling noise when coasting or if u drop in the clutch going down hill makes the right hand side mudguard and lift controls vibrate at it worse point. It came and went but now staying whats the worse thing can happen if still in use ??

Try this....
Have the back window open, drive forward in high range and listen... Then try the same in reverse..
Is it a 40K one??

No she does 20moh flat out. She make the same noise if you let her run backwards down hill. It came into her after full service. Tractor had been doing very little this past couple of years but getting plenty of road work now

Is it 4wd? might be stuck on and getting a transmission windup.

Yes 4wd when we bought the tractor it was stuck in 4wd for a long time and never made that sound had that fixed a few years ago I’ll go with jacking her up when I get a 3 ton trolley jack of a mate. I will throw full lock on her and see if she’s fighting with me thanks for idea

There's no need for a jack.. Put it in MFWD and on full lock, drive forwards a few yards and turn MFWD off (don't touch the brakes for any of this).. You should see the front of the tractor 'jump' into the turn..
