Could anybody help me out, im looking to sharpen the knifes on my John deere 575 baler, is it hard to take out the knifes as i havnt done it before?

can you sharpen the knifes yourself or is it better to get them done right by somebody?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Don't touch them yourself with a grinder as you will heat them , I use our own Agriknives machine and I have over 4000acres on one set of knives in a pottinger jumbo., I know lads who were buying a new set of knives every 700 acres for their wagon before they bought the Agriknives machine. So bring them somewhere where there is a proper sharpening machine that has coolant.

i was thinking i would need to get them professionally done with a machine, i have done around 2000 bales and im not sure when the previous owner of the baler sharpened them

Every 500 bales is good time to sharpen them. Dont be afraid to sharpen them yourself. A quick rub with a flap wheel on grinder will do minimal harm
