John Deere 678 baler issues, net wrap won’t wrap the bale

Having a few issue with the baler,

When the net starts to run out it won’t rap the bale and then wraps around the rollers

Lack of net tension is probably your cause, assuming its the same set-up as a 575 cures include rerouting the net over the baffle in the net compartment, or drilling additional holes in the tensioning arms and shifting to these holes halfway through the roll of net.

Does this model a belt baler with a rear net mech with twin rollers? If it is similar to my older model then check how clean/smooth the tray or chute is that the net drops down tho catch the belts.
Funnily enough I run my old baler without the tension springs on the net roll.

Wash the net rollers with petrol and apply talcing powder each morning should solve your problem

Use only good net, tamma or jd own brand were good

What I found helped most was to run baler at 580-600rpm

Dont think there is an exact answer to your issues, they were known to be troublesome. Some days my brothers would bale all day no issues, other days you wish it caught fire. Did make a very good bale though!!

As said, it's a bad system. Some days it'll be fine, others you'll be out every bale. What fixes it one day won't work on another day. Thankfully I said goodbye to 575, 578 and 678 net problems when a Fusion arrived.

And NEVER use a knife near netwrap rollers

On our 575, the net round the roller was down to the main feed roller rubber being damage which we replaced year before last. The second main problem is the roller brake needs to actually work.

I've done this as well but also added two extra springs. Didn't work perfect so now I have a nice chunk of wood I put in between the roll and arm.

I wasted many many hours winding the netwrap back off the rubber roller on my JD baler

If it’s same as the 578 netter check the bearings on the roller with the spiral ends the net feeds round befor it goes to the pair feed rollers ... had problem with net not starting as this roller was tight to turn by hand ...
