John Deere 750a Disc Wear

Anyone used any APM discs recently. I had them ring again today and they are a lot cheaper than JD, unless made like cheese probably will work out cheaper than OEM. Said to be 52 rockwell & JD changed manufacturers?
Going to try one alongside my new JD discs, i guess time will tell

what price are they quoting ?

I ran a set of APM and they lasted about 2/3rd the life of JD ones - at the time that still made them cheaper but JD prices were lower last set I bought making APM less compelling

I reckon they need to be less than 2/3rd the price yo make it worth the extra fitting time

With JD ones available at around 31-32 that doesn't look appealing if they only do 65-70% of the work a set of JD ones do. Surely once you take fitting time into account you need generic ones to only be about half price.

I'd agree with you. I wish they all lasted longer!

Spaldings New Product Leaflet June-August 17 list a 53-54 HRC 18'' x 5 mm disc ( part no 00504) to fit JD drills.

I suspect the actual hardness is 48-52 HRC, standard spec for a Boron steel disc. A 55 HRC disc will last about 4 times as long as a 48-52 HRC in my experience.

By the time you get to 17” dia the bevel has gone which will affect performance in high trash and dd situations. You can go to 16” if you’re only drilling into a cultivated seedbed but be aware that you’ll have much higher seed boot wear if you run them this low. Personally I’d change them at 17” to make the boots last longer.

Had a call from Olivers Petworth today they can supply forgez de niaux 200 discs 55-58 hardness.
Going to get some to try on the stones.
