John Deere Gator RPM

Bought a used JD Gator six months ago, isn't as fuel efficient as I thought it might be.
It seems to run at very high revs the whole time, usually 2500-3000rpm when driving, even over 3500rpm when doing 25-30mph on a flat road.
Is this normal?

Couldn’t tell you what rpm it should be running at but if it’s never had a main drive belt it will definitely need one.
It should try and drive virtually at tick over, if it does nothing then sets off with a jolt the belt is shot.

How are you liking it. Considering one at the minute

That's exactly what it does. Once the revs get high enough it sets off at a jolt. Don't think it would drive when just ticking over.
How much would it cost to get a dealer to supply and fit a new main drive belt?
Should it improve the mpg thereafter?
It's 13 plate with only 2000 miles on the clock and was in excellent nick otherwise at the time of purchase.

Fantastic machine in my opinion. If only they were faster on the road!!

If you're doing a lot of off-roading get the bigger alloy wheels with proper off-road tyres, would make a huge difference in mud for ground clearance and grip. Bench seat be a better option too to squeeze an extra person in if need be. No need for a heater, gets warm in the cab after a decent drive anyway.

What do they do on the road? Petrol or diesel? Do they want to sink easy?

I know the belts aren’t cheap, I seem to think they’re around £113. I fitted one a couple of months back and took no more than an hour, It’s not a bad job if your any good with a spanner?
If you tell me the exact model I’ll get you a price on a belt.

Ps don’t know if it will improve the mpg’s But should add a little top end speed. They tend to get driven flat out no matter what so constantly reving hard.
