John Deere HiLO 16/8

Hi, , when did JD the change from kicking the gear lever to the extra lever for HiLo? Has somebody retrofit the extra HiLo lever on his tractor? Best regards freelancer

In relation to this post, we had a 3040 2wd years ago which was B reg, and it had the later type extra lever fitted. Never really gave it much thought but come to think of it I've never seen another 40 series with one on?

Iirc the extra lever was developed because people driving with their hand permanently on the gearstick ready to change the splitter were wearing out selectors etc in the gearbox. Could your tractor have been modified to prevent repeating an expensive gearbox tepair?

I would guess at around an E reg they switched over when sticks were on side , but I remember a 40 B reg series with sticks on floor and splitter on right hand side on its own .

That would make sense, if it had been modified it had been done very well as it had all the correct plastics fitted. It would be great if it was still about, but I have a feeling it was exported when we traded it in for our 6410.
