The third services on our tractor loader has stopped working, button not doing anything and no noise of it trying to do anything out at the block, wheres the best place to investigate??

Now Then..
What model of loader and what tractor is it on?? Also, which joystick / control system does it have?? Is it a multidocking or separate pipes and plug 'poverty spec' version??

Its on a 6420s, a 583 loader, without seeing it in front of me i cant remember exactly, joystick has 3 buttons down the side and you press button and tilt or crowd it to operate 3rd service.....

They have a tendency to break the wires just behind the rubber gator around the top of the joystick, It usually means cutting open the black shroud and checking the wires. However there will be a 10A fuse where the joystick wiring plugs in just behind the console that’s worth checking first, I know it’s a daft place for a fuse but it’s part of the joystick wiring harness.

Firstly make sure there is power getting to the solenoid plug when the button is pressed. Use a multimeter, or even better something like a 50 watt lamp, that will prove there is adequate power getting through.

Open up the casing on the joystick and check the solder hasn’t broken on any of the wires.

Any of 3 buttons should make the 3rd service work, they're on a little circuit board and can't be altered. As said, the wires can break as they pass through the joystick base block. There is a fuse just inside the side console and there's a fuse in the fuse box marked with a loader symbol. Another common ish failure point is the 3 pin plug within the multidocking..

Not having much luck! Loader end is fine, we powered it and checked it l, so it's probably joystick or wires in cab area...cant find another fuse at base of the console

When I said behind the console i mean the one at the right hand side of the seat. You need to remove the two screws and pop the panel out from the bottom. You may have to unbolted the leave base to get the panel out, like I said the fuse is in a stupid place!
once the panel is out you should be able to find where the loader wiring loom plugs into the tractor loom, it’s worth testing for power at that plug. The fuse should be just next to this connector.

If you have power there and the fuse is good there should be another 6 pin connector that coming out the base of the lever and connected to the multidock loom. Unplug the connector and check for an earth, then see if there’s a living when you push a button. If there’s no power there it’s either a broken wire behind the rubber gator on the joystick or the switch board in the top has gone knackered.

Thanks, I got that panel off, I've found the two plugs/connectors there, just no fuse! Will have to test for power at them tomorrow. Looked at as many of the wires as possible and no sign of any broken, just hoping it's not the joystick.
