The Right Honourable Member for Wokingham has been talking in the Article 50 debate. A summary:

  • Tariffs should be removed from developing nations, especially on food
  • They would provide us cheap food
  • We would provide them with services in return without tariffs
  • Farmers domestically would not be paid for producing food but for environmental services.
This echos very closely what Michael Gove was saying last night. Is this a coincidence, or are these Tory Grandees in the know?

The MP for the nineteenth century Jacob Rees-Mog was saying very similar a couple of weeks ago.

If only I could find it now! Do you remember a long chest thumping thread pre the revolution when the Brexiters with the purest blood on here were salivating at the prospect of unbridled free market farming. No more inspections, no more subs, no more lilly livered farmers who couldn't cut it without subs, no more liberal lefties, no more bunny huggers, glyphosate to the left, glyphosate to the right. British farmers freed of Brussels imperialism would fill the shelves with home produced food and jam pack the English Channel with freighters laden down with the excess bound for new markets opened up by the Right Honourable Boris BoJo Johnson.
