Joining water tanks at the base

I want to join 3 1500l water tanks together to harvest some water on a shed.

Now I could employ a small child to lower them inside the tank so I can fit a plastic outlet and they can hold the nut inside the tank. But I don’t have ready access to said small child.......

Are there any fittings that can be installed from outside the tank? Want something like 2” bore I should think.

Drill hole from outside at base. Turn tank upside down. Pass piece of string with small weight through hole, retrieve weight from inverted tank top. Thread fitting onto string. Pull string back through drilled hole, apply lock nut.

Small children are often distracted by other parts of the operation and may not like it when you pretend to screw the lid on.

Trouble is that the locknut doesn't always grip & tighten up properly. I once did it by bodging a T shaped tool with bent ends on the top bar to match the nut that I fished through the tank in a similar manner to the above method. When it came to tightening up, holding the T bar stopped the nut spinning! (y)

You could try making your own small child (it's fun) but they don't stay small for too long if you feed them too much.

Re reading my post, I thought I'd knock up a quick model to show the principle to make it clearer:
nut holder.jpg

My one was knocked up out of several lumps of angle brackets etc. from my "handy to have" bin and didn't look very good! I recall thinking at the time that I ought to make a 'proper' one with adjustable arms for different sized nuts, but then I realised that it's so rare that I need one that it's probably not worth bothering with!

You need three nuts on the spigot. Pull the fitting into place as above - wire / string etc. When fitting is in place spin on the nut you will tighten and then put two others on leaving them near the outlet end of the fitting. Lock these two nuts together. Tighten first nut against tank using the other two to stop the fitting turning. When tight slack of two extra nuts and remove.

They quite enjoy it

For a couple mins, it's when they realise you've gone for a cuppa they get agitated :cautious::LOL:
