i have just bought a Kamas grain cleaner and I have a few questions for the learned on here. For starters I dont know what age it is. It's completely made of timber and looks quite old. Anyone an instruction manual lieing around for one? Also the motor is missing from it, I wondering what size and type of motor it should be? Also only one set of sieves for it anyone any sieves suitable for cleaning beans? Any tips or advice greatly appreciated.

Ha
I had the same problem 40 years ago when i bought a secnd hand one.
The only instruction book i could get was in Swedish.
Luckily had a friend in Sweden could interpret it!
They are fairly simple to use. Set them up level
The feed will need an overflow as you must not feed it fster than the machine will take it.
They will have an undersize and oversize screen. I cannot help in your part of the world for screens, but I expect sieve services could make a set to fit. They are from Notts i believe.
Cannot help with the motor size really but expect 1/2 hp. Would be plenty

Kamas were taken over by Allmet. If you go to Lama this week, it might be worth having a chat with them. There might be an old timer there who has all the info you need.

Allmet may sell Kamas cleaners, but the Kamas brand is owned by Westrup A/S of Denmark. Their official UK agent is Girston Ltd., Louth, Lincolnshire, Phone number is 01507 611152
Do you have any details on the model number of your cleaner?. I'd say that 1/2 hp for the sieve boat motor is probably too small. I guess that its more likely to need a 2hp motor. Does it have a separate aspirator fan? If it does, that could need a 3 hp motor.
The size of screens that you need does depend on the variety etc but I suggest that a top screen with 13mm round holes and a bottom screen with 5mm slots should be OK for field beans. Just sit down before you ask for the price of screens, they are not cheap!!!

As you say the grain business of Kamas was incorporated into Westrup A/S. However JWI Ltd of North Yorkshire, owners of the Allmet dryer brand, are now sole UK agents for Westrup. They can be contacted on 01325 378008.
