A Big M doing the rounds on demo in this area at the moment & it has no were near the out put of a big tractor on a set of triple mowers, running cost a very high for big M as well
If your lookin high output from 3 mowers the best is a xerion with the 3 class rear mounted mowers. Lyons contracts runs them and iv watched them with a big m in the next field and the xerion was whippin the big m. Its also quicker than a conventional triple set up

Aw c'mon the new contractor's in town down this way is all over social media saying it's the next level in mowing compared to his triples 🤣

Always has to be someone different...our contractor had a xerion & triples & a big M at the same time. Xerion went, big M stayed. Runs triples on a 724 for second set of mowers & another contractor on call with triples if he needs more mowing capacity. Not sure if he could justify the Xerion for anything other than mowing so no different than a big M for a lot of people I guess.

300 acres a day with our 939 on a set of 10 meter triples is a walk in the park for it
It all depends what you're cutting and what your paddocks are like really.
What's a 939 and a set of triples cost? Certainly not cheap but ok if you need the tractor for other things, that can't efficiently be done with smaller, cheaper tractors.
Every situations different, Big M's are a bit niche, doesn't mean they don't work for some though.
A 2001 Big M would cut and merge 30 acres an hour in decent sized fields when it was new, not bad for 20+ years ago.

Contractor 50 mile away had 1 for a few years, he’s bought another new one to have a pair.
A friend of mine had 1 on demo the other day and it was hammering on, I think it was wider than 10m too. I saw a few videos of the big M going alongside the tractors and triples from the view of the tractors and the bigM looked like it was doing 4-5mph more

Hopefully, you can see that one.

According to the Seller, it was Lely AU attempted at a big M
And apparently he doesn't want to get rid. That is stupid money, and that system with 3 frontmowers is at least a 25 year old design, that machine can't be much younger then 20 years.

Too many triples and reverse drives about probably, bit niche.
When the original Big M came out there wasn't many big 300+hp tractors with front linkage about, so they kind of made sense.
Think I'd still have one if the acres are there, think 6 or more cuttings of hay in the hotter US states. 4 or 5 thousand acres in the UK or Ireland might not be enough.
