Krone BiG X 480/580/630

Have anyone got any info on how the new small range BiG X is going? Was a couple of years since first 480 was released so there might be a few out with a couple of hours on them!

I demoed the 480 in maize 2016, it was a real pleasure to drive but I found it a bit gutless. But I am not sure I can make a fair verdict since I drive a BiG X 650 otherwise.

So, anyone heard anything? Or experienced them first hand?

Yes pleased with it run the 36 knives drum on half knives
My current 650 got a 28 knife drum... I rum 14 in grass and 28 in maize, works perfect! But still thinking of getting a 20 knife drum next time...

Have you tried the small BiG X range yet?

Btw, is there any big improvement in the 2016 700 over the 2012 one?

Ok, would be nice to get info from one with a 580/630 since I am slightly concerned about the output vs the 650. Im pretty close to the edge when last grass comes at the same time as the maize.

Although it seems easier doing maize one day and grass the other day with a 580... that would help! Also wonder if the smaller intake can handle a 10 row header or if 8 might be max? Seen two demoed 630 in Denmark running 12 rows...!?

Hi everyone. Yeah @CrevisbigX is right, we bought the demo 16 plate about 3 months ago now. All I know is that the processor is easy to get in and out on a ram and pump like the rest of the newer choppers now. Also we like the quick release and quick coupler on the header. Apart from the tightest turn circle, all the bits of the 900 series jag offers, in the size of the 800, the new w shape tine bar, camless real, and 630hp, I'd say it's well equipped to give your older krone a good run for its money. Also I know of one round here what runs a 10 row maize header and he has the counter weights on the back but it handles it fine he says.

So you did buy it for next season? Or did you get to try it last year as well?

What model did you have before the 630?

So the guy with the 630 doesnt have any complaints about the big mass that needs to go through the smaller feedcabinet when running 630 hp/10 rows?

No we bought it for next season. We had a demo of it in grass and did 85 acres in 7.5 hours which isn't mega but in 10 acre fields and only 3 carts in a narrow pit we didn't do too bad I don't think. We had a lely trailed chopper. The guy with the 630 2017 reg hasn't got any complaints. He had his for maize this last season. 10 row and said he gets on well enough with it. Does about 700-800 with it and about 600 rye and he gets on well enough. He owns an ad site.

Sounds promising... do you remember what kind of speed you could run in when you demoed it? And what kind of swaths?

Grass capacity doesnt really worry me, but maize might be a bit too much... I got somewhere between 420-440 hectares to chop. And in worst case scenario a couple days of grass in the middle of maize harvest. I have been looking at a 580 with 8 row header, but plan is to remap to a 630 if its needed...

We used the farmers rake which was a 2800 liner I think. It had 30' of grass in the swath and we could do about 12k to 15k. The pickup reel handles lumps like you have never seen. They sort of rip the lump up before it's entered the feed rollers. It like pulls the lumps up sideways if you know what I mean so it is fed in abit at a time instead of the straight tine bar which lifts the lump up in one go and feeds it in as a solid mass.

Yeah, the Krones are extreme when it comes to pick up grass. The varistream as well makes all the difference in the world, not only for lumps but also for fuelusage!

30" is our swath width as well, was it a good yield?
