Kverneland say ploughing sequestrates more carbon

Kverneland say the findings of a €3 million European study show that good ploughing sequestrates more carbon than min or no till' farming

They say that by inverting organic matter (ploughing) in comparison to leaving it to rot on the surface, Co2 emissions are reduced. Furthermore seeds are buried to a depth that dramatically reduces germination

Does this mean the actual benefits of min/no till' are purely financial? That with reduced Co2 emissions and chemical usage, ploughing is actually better for the environment?

Ploughing and crop rotation is what us "old fashioned" mixed farmers still do

I seen a study about 5 years ago saying that ploughing/min-til and no till all worked out equal by the end of the planted crop.

Who knows? And less do I care.

Organic ploughing bound to be better than high use chems and fert shipped all over the world, like wise all the crap we ship round the world and we are worrying if our £10k ploughs are making the planet fart a bit more than the neighbours £90k horshe?

Does it only work with a red plough?

I can black land over with a £2k Dowdeswell and combi drill as easily and no more time than a pass with discs, spray glypho and then freeflow drill.
There's about £60 in fuel difference but that's the glypho cost.
All of the toys are in the toybox, some of them stay there, but they're all paid for.

So Janet has sfi paying for the wrong thing.
SFI should pay for ploughing.
DD boys don't need a payment anyway as they want to do it as it's so great and earns them lots of ££ from great crops they say.

Does anyone have the FW article on an arable farm selling carbon credit for up to £150k to an F1 team.
They have depleted their soils so will now sequester carbon by planting grass and introducing LIVESTOCK!!! It will take 20 years.
Meanwhile my livestock grassland farm is a net emitter.
So they release soil carbon for 50 years then someone else pays them to replace it while offsetting it against emissions from F1 cars and private jets.
The whole thing is sheer quackery yet millions have been hoodwinked.

Good chunk of our ploughing has a dose of FYM beforehand. Adds some OM.

Disadvantage of ploughing is we never bother with a cover crop (ahead of autumn sown cereals), due to hassle of destroying the cover..
