Crop plots are at the heart of Cereals! Located centrally within the event, the crop plots offer the chance to review new varieties and practices from a wide range of exhibitors. See not only the latest in breeding but also crop protection methods and soil management techniques. KWS UK has been providing growers with innovative new varieties to meet varied end-market needs for over 25 years. They develop a wide range of oilseed rape, maize, sugar beet and cereal varieties in conjunction with the KWS group.

KWS Connect sessions

We're sad we won't be seeing you in the field this year. However, our KWS Connect sessions are going to be THE virtual event you won't want to miss! We invite you to join us on either the 15th, 17th or 19th of June for a 30-minute live event where we will discuss our key varieties across wheat, barley and OSR.

Independent Agronomy Working for you. AICC Trials backing independent decision making.

AICC agronomists interpret their own data, make their own conclusions based on technical merit and are not influenced by product sales. One such source of information is via the comprehensive AICC national trials programme. 2020 will focus, amongst many other areas, on looking at nitrogen fertiliser product choice, the agronomic merit of growing BYDV resistant winter barley, and evaluating the flexibility of fungicide programmes without the use of CTL by growing varieties with a high Septoria resistance rating, comparing existing and future chemistry as well as showing how to optimise all other inputs.

New bio-stimulant range maximises nutrient uptake while reducing nitrogen requirements

Yields and quality can be improved, profits increased, and environmental concerns addressed with a new hybrid bio-stimulant product that reduces the total nitrogen application needed on crops. Helping to short circuit the natural growth process by harnessing nitrogen in its amine form, AminoA BLAAZT also combines amino acids to create an extremely efficient means of introducing a concentrated form of nitrogen into the plant.

Unlocking the potential of your crops with bio-stimulants

AminoA products are natural bio-stimulants, obtained through enzymatic hydrolysis. Containing essential amino-acids that plants synthesise throughout their growth cycle, they can contribute positively to yield and quality if the plant is not already producing optimal levels of amino-acids itself.

The timely application of biological crop stimulants has already resulted in record-breaking yield responses and improved quality performance, by boosting root development and reducing plant stress. Backed by replicated and independent trials, AminoA FLO is an easy to use liquid natural amino acid that can be applied in stressful situations, or in anticipation of stressful situations.

DSV is a breeding company which has been operating in the UK for more than 40 years. The company breeds and sells many different agricultural crops including oilseed rape, winter wheat, barley, grasses, maize, cover crops and lupins. DSV UK is based at Wardington near Banbury where its marketing and breeding teams are situated. The company also hosts winter wheat National List trials at this site.

According to DSV’s UK wheat breeder Dr. Matt Kerton, the headline features of the company’s new group 4 variety winter wheat Theodore could make it a real game changer. Theodore joined the 2020/21 RL last year with an 8.2 score for Septoria resistance, a 9 for yellow rust and a 7 for brown rust combined with a height of 82cm that gives it good resistance to lodging. Theodore has performed very well in the trials network over the last three years with high treated and untreated yields. More and more farmers are sensibly looking at the economics of a variety rather than just its potential yield. Theodore is very much a variety for today and a great choice for the conscientious grower. Its superb combination of disease resistance and agronomic properties points the way to genuinely lower cost wheat production in the future.

The Turnip Yellows Virus (TuYV) is spreading across Europe’s oilseed rape fields. Transmitted by aphids, the virus causes damage to plants that is difficult to detect and results in yield losses of up to 30%. The only effective measure is to grow resistant varieties of oilseed rape.

Just Oats is a unique, innovative collaboration dedicated to oats and brings together all major players in the oat supply chain - breeders, agronomists, crop developers and oat millers.
Collaborators include - Senova, Aberystwyth University, GB Seeds and the oat millers Richardson Milling (UK), PepsiCo and Morning Foods.

The Just Oats initiative brings combined expertise to Cereals Live 2020 so that knowledge of established and emerging markets for the oat crop can be shared. Just Oats is an opportunity for growers to get the latest details on agronomic advances, variety improvements and oat product developments ahead of the new growing season.

Senova is a private, independent seed marketing and crop development company with an innovative approach. We remain small and personal.

As representatives for breeders from across Europe our portfolio of varieties is diverse and includes winter and spring crops - cereals, oilseeds and pulses. Our leading varieties include Costello winter wheat, Valerie winter barley, Mascani winter oat and Vespa winter bean.

We have made considerable inroads into specialist market sectors. Persuit of new market opportunities has been, and remains key to the business.

Breeder John Blackman explains the highlights of two RL Candidate wheats Swallow and Banquo. Swallow is a soft feed variety with excellent potential for the distilling market. Banquo is a high yielding hard feed wheat with the tillering capacity of its parent Santiago but with improved disease resistance and early maturity.

Tom Yewbrey discusses the merits of Senova's leading winter bean varieties Vespa, Wizard, Bumble and Honey available in 2020. Vespa is the highest yielding winter bean on the PGRO RL, with excellent standing ability and large grain for export. Wizard is a proven variety for feed and export.

The NIAB stand at the Cereals Event is known for providing the latest technical advice and research in variety choice, independent agronomy, soil and rotation management, crop genetics and data science.

The full list of exhibits planned for 2020, which will now be covered by plot-based videos, webinars, downloadable guides, topic sheets and information posters,

  • Variety demonstration plots – video footage from 32 established and candidate wheat varieties (treated and untreated), 24 winter oilseed rape varieties, and information on spring oilseed rape, linseed, peas and beans;
  • The Soil Pit – focusing on rotational choices and comparing above and below ground crop growth including linseed, naked oats, herbal leys and companion cropping;
  • Crop protection and nutrition advice including new fungicide chemistry, new strategies and a comparison of wheat fungicide options;
  • Research and information on rotations, cultivations, tillage and soil management, including a look at alternative break crops to oilseed rape;
  • Risk factors for weed control in oilseed rape and cereals – including blackgrass, rye brome and broad-leaved weeds;
  • Plant disease research and new diagnostic techniques
  • NIAB crop research; using new plant breeding tools and technologies to help shape the future of our crops, including nitrogen use efficiency. From GM to gene-editing, re-synthesis to MAGIC – our demonstration plots show how wheat breeding research, and the use of new techniques, is improving the yield, efficiency and resilience of global crop production.

Bill Clark introduces some of NIAB's plots and work on winter wheat being showcased at the 2020 Cereals Event site near Duxford in Cambridgeshire. The event itself has been cancelled but the plots will continue to be managed with video tours right up until the Cereals Live virtual event on 10th and 11th June.
