losing certain sprays.
Good point.

The terrible significance of this has yet to be widely realized, for it means that all the existing comparative varietal data painstakingly built up over the years will, from this autumn, have to be scrapped.

And for the HGCA this means some extremely challenging, but very exciting, times ahead!

It would be good if trial site stop using chemistry a year before it was banned. We would have a better idea of how variety will performed.

Hi, well done. This sentence in your post made me smile. Perfect wording for the Farmers Weekly. Any chance you could put the numeral 1 in front of the amounts, to really give it that FW bounce!

It is that Hanslope soil again. We must get you some Ragdale/Denchworth to farm.

Best wishes,
If I added last years harvest to this one then I may be worthy. Yes on hanslope. Although 10ha of what we cut yesterday is on some lighter soils running down to the valley bottom which yielded more like 4t/ha.
you can keep your denchworth I can’t afford to farm that stuff!

What is the grain set like on everyones Extase?

It might be because it was planted too late followed by a shite season, but mine is only set 3 across, some poorer heads are only set 2 across, and the grains feel really loose as if they're ready to shed out.
The Grafton beside it is 4 across, and the grains are set solid in the glume.
I'm not convinced that Extase is all that it's cut up to be...

My beloved Grafton has done well, but hate to say it, Kerrin may have done better, I didn't combine the Gleam so don't know how it has yet.

I had Illustrious do 2 t/ha less than the Skyfall in the next drill width. Last year Illustrious was my best variety, doing better as a second wheat than Elicit as a first.. I shall still grow it again.

Looks like it's holding it's own in the early AHDB results. Thought about trying some but our agronomist said to wait another year as he'd had some customers who found it disappointing. It could be very valuable variety to have in a high septoria year.
