Never mind the boluses - more impressed with your medicine store :woot:

You look a far too tidy operator to be associating with most of us scruffy heathens here in Livestock and Forage :bag::bag:

:playful::playful:

..........Oh, BTW, never used your brand but use Agrimin boluses - prefer boluses to mineral drenches (y)

I use the Mayo boluses. I find the lamb dosing gun a bit heavy for the very young lambs but I got on reasonably well with the rubber dosing gun fixture last year although it has now split and I think if you were doing large number the "odd failure" would send you round the bend. The rep is one of the most helpful people on the planet. @Mayo on here i think.

Which ones, left or right tub?

IF YOU NEED TO SUPPLEMENT TRACE ELEMENTS, the 4-in-1 lamb boluses seem to work about the same as the Agrimin ones IMO. None will do anything if you’ve no deficiencies.

The only fault is they don’t contain copper, so you have to give a copper capsule if you need it, but other brands the same on that score.

Just did my early March lambs the other day and none dead yet.?

As far as the little ‘guard’ boluses are concerned, I’ve never seen much benefit from them, and a drench is cheaper & easier to give, where a short acting boost is required. Others may beg to differ.

Wish I had the confidence to switch from mineral buckets to bolusing.

It's definitely worth learning to do it. You know every animal is getting it's dose then. I like the Mayo adult ones because they are small and the gun head is small. I think my ewes stress less than with bigger ones I've used in the past. There are some really good videos on line. It's just about taking your time.

How often are people testing too see what they’re short of too know what and when too bolus? Not something iv ever explored iv always just done a multi vit drench pre tipping and too lambs at weaning rightly or wrongly it’s just what iv always done...

You probably only need to test once, unless things change. Worth doing.

Problem I have is my ground is all very much temporary... I don’t pay big rents but my grazing is never guaranteed I work with a hay/haulage grower and a few arable farms grazing what ever they don’t want works well for me but the land changes more than I can keep track of I only actually hold a grazing licence on 16 acres and HS2 are having that off me in September too... so I don’t really know if testing will be of advantage for me ... was hoping to talk to a few reps at shows this year about how best to go forward as I Defiantly want too stop just giving out multi vit drenches for fun while I’m worming and it be a more targeted approach but don’t know if that’s possible with the way I graze...

Hmm, doesn't make it easy. If you're creeping your lambs it won't matter too much but that doesn't help the ewes.

We use the lamb bolus and also the ewe 4 in 1 bolus. Find them easy to administer and they seem to work. Do the ewes twice a year and lambs once.
Plus 3.

find them excellent, very quick to use and a fantastic applicator which is lovely to use and far less tiresome than the old cosecure Bolus gums which you needed 7’ of arms for. These slip on the side of the mouth and straight in with no fighting, even gone back to race bolusing with the mayo compared to combi clamp bolusing with the cosecure.
with someone loading me so double gunning I can do 300-350 ewes/hr no problem.

bought mayo blast off drench the other day, 5.6p/lamb for a drench, not sure if it will have much of an impact but I’m hoping it will boost cobalt levels before the bolus’s are put in on 3 weeks time. Looking after the 1%’s sort of scenario.

This is turning into 'The Mayo Show', but I used their cattle boluses yesterday for the first time and they were good to give as well. Only three very quiet heifers admittedly but they were done between two gates. No head scoops here!

Moved to mayo bolus' 3 seasons ago, vet was unimpressed but with poor scanning this time we did 6 bloods and cobalt and selenium levels were well within acceptable levels which was not the case when we tested 5 years ago before we started bolusing. Bolus lambs a week before weaning with the lamb bolus, some also get copper capsule if going on high molybdemum pastures. Very pleased overall.

If only the what tractor/pickup/atv/combine/sprayer/plough/rake/mower/baler/telehandler/tup to use/bull to use/moving dead horse threads had been sorted so quickly :ROFLMAO: (y):banghead:
