One for cooking, one for cleaning, one for the bedroom?140 cows plus followers to finish.
980 ewes.
All outside. Normally me and Mrs, but she's buggered her knee. So I've got 3 interns in.

I remember seeing a picture on hereYou haven't seen the poor lads.
They aren’t lambing them really are they. They are just knackerman. I know a similar outfit. There’s a couple of people lambing 1500-2000 ewes per shepherd, don’t think they do a lot more than winch the dead ewes into a truck as they don’t pull a trailer.
I’d struggle to keep arsing on with two separate lambing flocks I’d had to choose one or the other or none6500 tack sheep on stubble turnips, 250 indoors in January and then 150 outdoors in April on my own with a girl helping 2/3 days a week
5500 ewes a no penning up ewes or pet lambs. You know what the death rate must be like. Make fast genetic improvement though, only the strong live to breed from. They aren’t lambing them really are they. They are just knackerman. I know a similar outfit.
Also try Harper Adam’s I did two Easter holidays lambing, the only involvement I’ve ever had with animals really, quite enjoyed it. First was small farm near Sennybridge, just boss and me, second was 4 students 2 each 12 hour shift plus Shepard that was well organised. If you want willing labour at lambing (or calving time), advertise in the local vet schools or online!
Disgrace to the industry really, imagine if the great GP latched on to that one, farming’s been getting a bit of positive press coverage recently, we don’t want bad husbandry jeopardising that. We all get tarred with the same brush whenever something like that is publicisedThere’s a couple of people lambing 1500-2000 ewes per shepherd, don’t think they do a lot more than winch the dead ewes into a truck as they don’t pull a trailer.
Sounds about right imo. If you can’t afford that it’s a bad job imo750 ewes inside. Myself, full timer plus a student. One night lamber for the first cycle only.
It’s the first year doing it, restrictions on the amount I can lamb indoors has forced me to… although Iv linearly finished the outdoor batch and I’m seriously considering moving everything too outdoor in April now after my schmellanberg troubles in January …I’d struggle to keep arsing on with two separate lambing flocks I’d had to choose one or the other or none
That about sums up the lambing I’ve had this year ☔️There’s a couple of people lambing 1500-2000 ewes per shepherd, don’t think they do a lot more than winch the dead ewes into a truck as they don’t pull a trailer.
They're not always willing. And can be clueless. Remember it's compulsory for even the ones that never intend going anywhere near large animals again. If you want willing labour at lambing (or calving time), advertise in the local vet schools or online!
