my fly spray comes with a gun that squirts a good 10 feet, I’ve a few small groups I use this on, just feed every day and while their heads are down I do a few a day, groups are small enough I can remember which have and haven’t been done.
I used to do dairy heifers (groups of around 50 usually) with Spot On in the field. If they were ready for a move and hanging round the gate, even better.
You might not get them all, or apply it in a perfect position, but it spreads over the body anyway and having the majority of a group as walking fly killers, is certainly better than leaving them.
Just move quietly and smoothly so you don’t spook them and you should be able to do most in a few minutes.
Took a couple of troughs out into the field. Bucket of cake into troughs. Group of 25 heifers stood, lined up, eating for a few minutes. I wander along behind and put fly treatment along their backs. All dosed and job done. Easy.
We do ours with spot on,,I say we my wife does . She threadels pipe through sleeves of jacket and scratches their backs and does it that way. Seems to work well. If cattle see the gun their soon of across the field's
