Definitely some advantages with a trencher. We've been selling drainage ploughs to farmers in the UK who have found them to be quite advantageous. The ability to pull them with your tractor at twice the speed of a trencher AND, call me crazy, but you don't need to backfill with stone which is a huge cost-savings.

It enables the water to travel to get to the pipe. I believe gravel tunnels in conjunction with the primary drainage is not essential but the next thing to it

Don't look to bad , spray those rushes and it will graze fine , can't be that wet, the hedge cutter didnt get stuck , never left a mark even

I fear you don't know the area.
It's not unusual to see last years bales still in the field, waiting for a dry spell to fetch them in.

In clay, water will never find the pipe. In sand it’s very different.

All our drain are down about 3ft with stone 1 1/2 ft or so on top. The mole drainer will then easily hit the gravel And do it’s job

in clay, water will not travel far, so the answer is mole drains close which feed to the gravel on top of the drains. Clay also means the moles will form and hold for years too.

Other soils the drainage stone lets the silt filter out before getting into the pipe.

What about shortening the row spacing and installing the pipe a bit shallower instead of using stone? What are thoughts on that?

With all that said though, we do still sell a gravel box. It's easier to give the people what they want rather than trying to convince them! This one was modified to make the top larger.

What accuracy can your kit produce, as in mm / m of fall.

Some parts of the uk are pancake flat with no fall so getting them in right is crucial

That's spot on. And that's why accuracy is so crucial. We wouldn't be distributing these to anyone if accuracy wasn't on top of the list. It uses RTK GPS so about +/- 2.5 cm accuracy.

Before you install, you do a survey so it gives you the fall/rise of the run. Then you select your parameters (max depth, min depth, and target depth). The technology is great and dummy-proof (even I can do it and that says a lot).
