Ive just put a 9 inch pipe under a bank, the water was wetting all the land below , will have to wait now to see if i need and drains lower down , those will be 4 inch if needed , an open ditch would not have been suitable

All depends on the condition and soil type , the top drain or ditch i will dig and dig until i find water ,could be 7 ft if i can get it to run , that maybe all thats needed . Before i do anything i dig deep test holes and leave them for a week checking regular ti see how quick they fill ,if at all , the job im on at the moment im filling drains to plough depth with stone , its only a small area with a lot of water and a lot of clay

Don’t you think filling to plough depth will result in your topsoil soon blocking up the stone?

You could plaster yoour house with thr soil here ,been working there for 4 months and not seen one stone , we have to dig by hand under some power cables and needed a pick axe to break through the soil and clay , im planing on mixiing sand and chippins with the soil when i put the lawns back around the house
