Land leveling

Old land leveller has fell to bits beyond repair, thinking of buying 16 ft hydraulic folding , as my ploughing consists of getting it turned over and moving on the field can be left bumpy, usually hit it with power Harrow and leveller before sowing in grass any other options for smooth fields.

16 ft is very wide and tends to bridge a lot on hills ground , I use a Fleming 13ft folding and find it good , it has a lot of rough ground levelled.

tried a field of stubbles worked down with a set amazon catros discs one pass , a pass with spade rollers and then sown with an old accord , field was a lot leveller to cross over than the traditional plow , numerous passes with leveller and then sow. only problem is the citros discs belonged to some else and I would like a set now.

Looked at Fleming good leveller but thought for 3ft extra over a straight 10 ft it was a lot to spend . that's why I was looking at 16 ft. Would it work better if outside bits where in float.

I suspect the ploughing may be the problem. You can get the seedbed as level as you like, but as the sod rots down, uneven ploughing will sink unevenly. (I'm still a learner ploughman and it sometimes shows:oops:).

I'll look them up cheers, wondering why Fleming only make up to 13 ft , is it due to bridging or stress because of width weight of steel would need to be more.

Not answering your question but here are some pics of irrigation levelling equipment used in Victoria Australia mostly by contractors. Laser controlled scoop to shift and level land.

Then the final finish is done with a smudger board. They are often used to "touch up" irrigation bays after a crop or when replanting pasture.

Farmer sized and priced equipment used to smooth out the bays - between the check banks to control water as it goes down the bay.

I built these land levellers a few years ago they are not that expensive to to build if you can get hold of some second hand steel .

this is my hill billy (almost one pass ) i use for working down ploughing rear harrows are not un folded just use the bottom set it works very well in my heavy land

Set of rollers with hydraulic adjustable paddles work well after you have decent tilth with power Harrow especially when dry

Sounds like you need an aggressive grass harrow to keep your grass more productive longer. The grass harrow TRP import would work as a levelling machine and kept your grass more productive.
