Why go to all that bother and not have 4WD? Or does the spicer gearbox give you a high top speed at low revs?
I guess it was just easy and cheaper. The chap we had it off only used it as a toy and no off roading. It goes really well and is very quick. Scares me a little

We put a bedford 330 6 cylinder into a 110 landy many years ago it had been a petrol
And because of the length off engine and gear box there wasnt any room for a transfer box or low box but it had the truck crawler gear
It was great for pullling the stock box full off cows about especialy on m6 to auction here in cumbria with all the hills
We made it flat fronted and put the bedford TK truck axle under the rear to take the power increase
with black three inch mudgaurds on the out side to cover the wider axle/tyres and what did landrover do bring out the next series with same level front grill and wheel arch extentions there designers must off seen our landy driving round cumbria ralmfao
