Large scale fraud and criminality on Pembrokeshire mega-herd farm.

Suppose the question should maybe be why are commercial cattle worth any less than pedigree ones, with tagging and digital records all cattle are essentially pedigree just some don’t have bits of paper in the house to go with them. The whole thing is a racket.
Maybe a even more important question would be
Why are you not allowed to protect your livestock from unhealthy predators???
I think it’s madness that the badgers have such protection as they are night animals do public never see them anyway it wouldn’t be allowed in other countries for wildlife to harm livestock

It’s all wrong. A 15 month old bulling heifer failed the gamma test no way has it got tb as it’s never been out the shed but anyway rang up last week compensation £590. What the actual f**k can you do with that. It’s an insult.

Not involved in it these days, but I cannot understand how the tabular valuation system hasn't been challenged in court. I remember losing a first lactation Holstein back home, who's mother (Lulu) had done 13,000L and was the 9th generation of VG/Ex. Under the tabular system that had just come in then, we were better off by 'losing' her pedigree certificate.

Wasnt there another dairy farm in Usk doing the same thing?
Hopefully they will be shut down for good.

Not sure about Usk, but there was a large herd (previous Gold Cup winner) in Gloucester that was prosecuted for changing tags on reactors a good while ago, which is the reason the DNA tagging of reactor cattle was started.

Farmer committed suicide in a messy fashion shortly after iirc. :(

I didn’t know that. Why not a average for 6 months for non pedigree stock?

More data in from market sales?
You’ll have to ask Defra that one, I’m afraid.

Am I correct in thinking that the stripeys themselves aren't protected, but their setts are?
Both. Badgers well protected, and their ancestral home has a Grade 1 listing.

Think that's why they are lenient on people doing this stuff, don't want anything like that again. Soon after there was a similar case, in that area, where the chap got off very lightly. The judge mentioned his previous good character, I was told it wasn't a good character.

Not condoning the owners actions at all, but did they have badgers on any parts of the land they farm?
I could understand the mindset of someone prepared to take the occasional risk if they are obliged to have bTB positive vectors on the land ….
No idea. Geez you'll be one of the few not condoning fraud on this thread, well done!

The whataboutism on proud helped rid me of the sympathy I used to have, we have tb vectors crawling all over our place, that's why strict adherence to the movement policy is crucial.

TB is no longer a matter of disease, its become political, anything political plays by a different set of rules, basically who shouts loudest, and who has the most votes.

and the wrong side is winning the argument.

therefore it is important we keep to the rules, when we don't, it just gives the anti cull brigade, ammunition to 'prove' culling doesn't work, its farmers spreading it instead.

blame authors of books, that have 'humanised' animals, wise old owl, bambi, brock etc.

so it is really matters what we do, we have to be seen to be cleaner than clean. Whatever we think of the policy.

There has been a cap on TB payments in Wales for a long time now. Its nowhere near 6 figures- £4000 for a pedigree and £1800 for a commercial.
Bit different here!! Not sure how they manage to get to these figures tbh

IIRC in the words of the late Ian Potter at the time
“The badger lovers have the blood of this farmer on their hands”

Remember that, Id met him on a trip and at a few shows etc. Hell of a nice chap and good farmer. Did something stupid snd obviously the shame and fear of prison was too much, left a very young family as I recall.

I didn’t like him personally, but he had built up a damned good herd of cows, having taken on the business in his teens after this father had died young iirc. Certainly didn’t have anything easy.

Case where a farmer fined for running over a badger. He could have claimed it was an accident but not when the witness said he also reversed over it again.

shite, if l hit one, always reverse back over it, to make sure.

many years ago, had a new girlfriend, out and about one night, hit one, girl was quite upset, had a length of pipe in the boot, so was going to 'finish' it off, even more upset, so reversed over it, fecking thing took a chunk out of the tyre, so a tyre change, upset girl, and no long goodnight.
And a search for a new girlfriend.

one got hit by the farm, broke its back, just going round in small circles, lady stopped, tearful, could we do 'something'. Of course we can, .22, hysterical by now, screaming at me etc, so rung the vets, explained, and gave the mobile to lady, to hear vets view, shoot it. She was offering to pay for treatment, not interested, nor were the RSPCA. Never had, or wish to have again, a lady so distressed, wailing, pleading etc, at me not to shoot it, i did, and buggered off quick.

neighbours picked a 'dead' one up, and put in F in Laws boot one night, only it wasn't dead, that was really amusing !!

but, back to the lady, if we have people that passionate, fighting the cull, we will never succeed in convincing them otherwise.
