Latest Excel update on Apple mac

Anyone having issues today with Excel? On an apple macbook
my wife had a prompt to update this morning, she followed the prompts and now she cannot save any work .
Her office is demanding updates across the whole range of its products and will not open otherwise.

Found the answer after several hours!
if you run Office on a Mac, DO NOT follow the new instructions for an auto update!
There is a conflict with the latest Catalina OS.
If you follow on screen instructions, you are taken to the App store, where it downloads the latest MS version and then asks for an £80- 250 per year subscription, even if you already have a licence for life.
If you have done this , you must delete this on your computer then re install Office from your Microsoft account
