They are clever. Same with Farage with his phone in LBC show

He is clever not to often cut folks off he disagrees with. The researchers clearly filter them, they let a few through with notes to him so he can give his pre-amble first (or rehearse his arguments) . He asks plenty of loaded questions or starts with "would the vast majority not agree that .....). It's hardly C4 News but nothing is as biased as James O'Brien's show the other way round.

It all sounds very reasonable from Corbyn but the Corbinistas and Momentum are not nice. Same with the Far Right

He and his ilk are very aware of the English language. They open with a closed question to control (funnel) the subsequent flow of the conversation, rarely use open questions. I am saddened every day listening to news journalist, especially the alpha male types such as John Humphreys who battles with this technique. Eddie Mair and Evan Davies with a gentler approach using open questions and the 80:20 rule of interviewee and interviewer get far more information out of interviewees. Most leading politicians just love closed questioning technique as it allows them to avoid the question. Although Humphreys and co think it makes them look big and strong.

I used to really miss it if I couldn't hear the main political interview at 0810 on R4 Today. Now I consciously avoid it.

I now tend to "follow" select podcasts and play them when I can (eg on my motorbike). I do like Political Thinking with Nick Robinson. I think he gets more out of them. Most politicians come out more favourably than the aggressive soundbite seeking interviews a la Humphreys etc. Except Liz Truss, she came over as just as vacant (why is she so obsessed with cheese?)

Yes, we listen to Political Thinking. Robinson does get a more human side out of them and how their background has shaped their political thinking, allowing you to judge them as a whole and not just as a sound bite.(y)

I think he's a bit like the whips too in that he actually does know some of the dirt on them :D

Change of subject as Twitter isn't my friend searching for the answer. Just what was it that caused Alastair Campbell to tweet back to David davis to "F*** right off"?

Farage supporters are also minority, maybe not on this forum or a forum for London black cab drivers, but majority of the General Public hate him but you won't know this because you live in an echo chamber
or ,or, or. Just maybe you live in the echo chamber . You still havent got over the 'fact' that 17.4 million (the majority) doesnt agree with you. Never easy being wrong when in your own mind you are convinced you know best.

Beware of the populist far right. We all know where that led some ninety years ago from a very similar start with a similar charismatic leader. This is not an off the cuff statement and I urge you to think very carefully on it.
While that is true you have to look further into why he was able to bend people into his thinking, the german economy tanked and with mega inflation folks were taking their wages home in wheel barrows, those in power werent taking any notice of the concerns of normal germans, just like the leaders of many countries arent now, just look atthe response from juncker et al to the leave result, their answer was "more europe" not less

if you think the majority of the 17.4 million are fans of Nigel Farage then you're an idiot

How long have they been net payers, how many migrants have they had, not assylum seekers but migrants ? I dont have an issue with genuine workers coming but many do and their concerns need addressing not dismissing by those in ivory towers, I know some need to get off their backsides but there are real dangers ignoring them

Well they have the euro which seems to trouble you and because of that they had penalties with regard to bailing out Greece. Nonetheless...

Actually, I thought it was a good day for liberal sensibility (y)

How much did we have to help ireland with the bail out and we arent even in the euro, remember when we were told we would be a basket economy if we didnt join, sounds like more project fear mark 1

It seems to me that the anti Farage brigade are desperately trying to find what isn’t there. I see no issue with a native-first policy; the same happens in France, I believe.

They say racism is growing but thats because they keep calling people who do not agree with there pro eu beliefs as racists. Its a cheap shot thrown about by people who cannot get over there referendum loss . They also love to dish it out but dont like having it back.

Not heard of any, but I am sure it happens unofficially. Quite easy in many ways, they only have to ask do you speak French.

The problem as I see it is that we now also have a 'far middle'.
Farage isn't far right. He is demonised as such to suit an agenda. Inversely this makes the far right seem more acceptable as it is assumed they are being wrongly tarnished in the same way as Farage.
To a certain extent, the trouble has been that the far left and right are too censored. You only need to give them a chance to have enough rope and they will soon hang themselves. Being continuously demonised by the mainstream simply makes them attractive to all those who are fed up with the mainstream. The views of extremes must be acknowledged and shown to be wrong rather then ignored and hidden.
'Far middle' try to stifle debate and class a majority they like as democracy and the ones they don't like as populist.

I kind of agree with all of this. The only snag is the Beeb and others don't show enough of the rope for them to hang themselves

for example, I think every mainstream media outlet should have aired this video on every news bulletin the day after No Brexit Day

Brexit is slightly different. It has been shown that left/ right has no bearing on the likelihood of being leave/ remain.
