Looking to put a 20 ft lean to on the back of an atcost barn. It will be steel framed, does anyone know the best way to attach rafters to the concrete posts? I don't really want to put in extra stanchions. Thanks

It isn’t easy, there’s a shed load of bars in them that you will hit. How we’ve done it before is make a bracket that goes both sides the concrete rafter and then bolt straight through

Could you clamp to them with a plate both sides and long bolts?

I have seen this at a farm near me. Must be up 25 years now. 40' silage pit shed attached to a steel frame by clamps. They must not have had a mag drill.

resin bolts in then put nuts on? as long as you get a sensible depth wont matter if you hit rebar? unless the rebar is pretty near the surface.

I've one here and the beams are welded to a plate that is just bolted on through one of the holes in the concrete posts, can take a picture tomorrow.

Isn't there plenty of 12mm holes cast in the posts ?

Make a saddle from 10mm plate to fit around the post using the holes in the concrete post to fix it on, 14mm holes one side and put 18 in the other as the holes are not always dead true then use heavy gauge repair washers, weld a piece of beam on the outside of the plate and drill it to take new rafter

Don't try drilling it the rebar is only about 25mm cover and loads of concrete will shatter of the post and make a right mess

This is the set up, the bit of flat coming down is bolted through an existing hole in the post
