As above,
We've got a couple of 400watt metal halide floodlights, lighting cattle sheds,
Loads of light especially in calving shed.
But at a tenner a week I'm going on an economy drive.
Anyone know what sort of size led's will do a similar job?
I gather you get what you pay for re. manufacturer quality, and there's a lot of Chinese sh*the about.
Any recommendations?

You'll need a 120w led bulb to replace them, Philips make some good ones.

I get mine off ebay, they're Chinese, but who else makes them? I've never had any LED light fail ever.

Bought some from a place someone recommended on here, when they came they were Ching Chong just like the eBay ones,I've since bought them of eBay.(y)

I get mine off eBay from China the uk suppliers appear to be the Chinese ones marketed up, I always spec "warm white" colour as I'm not keen on the blue colour. metal halide lamps are reasonably efficient so if you need the same light output I expect you would need 300-400 watt led, not worth it IMO.
OR you could fit low power led along side the metal halide so you have the best of both worlds .

I think you will struggle to get a true equivalent led at the moment affordable led technology has not caught up to 400 mh size yet at least replacing one for one.
I had a lighting survey done In a shed to replace 400 w high bays with led and they had to put In a third more to get the spread , peak illumination was better but the overall illumination was not as much just replacing the existing.
The cost of the additional wiring and fittings and energy that the extra 3rd would use made the payback much longer I took the view that leds would get bigger cheaper and better In the next year or so so held off on it.

I fitted some 36 watt pir operated leds to the house recently that are nice neat and have good light , although they where sold to me as an equivalent 500 watt led they are noware near in my opinion

This might be of some help. When working out the amount of light comparison for LED it is always difficult to compare like for like in lumen terms as high wattage LEDs produce an incredible amount of light as in Lumens per watt - Lm/w. For example a H/Low bay flood light produces around 125lm/w were as most MH produces around 85 lm/w. You should get a better result from Led.
There is also the term Pupil lumens, this is our and your animals perception of light. If you look at a MH 100w and a 100w Led at the same lm/w the LED will be brighter to the eye even though they are the same. Please take a look our range at https://www.luxum.co.uk/ or our dedicated Agriculture store at https://agriculture.luxum.co.uk/ We have a promotion on this month.
Our LuxumSaturn range is extremely popular for indoor lighting as they use the Philips Lumileds LUXEON 3030 2D chip driven by the HBG-240-48B Mean Well Driver, please take a look at https://www.luxum.co.uk/Led-Low-Bay-Led-High-Bay.
To dispel any fears about buying from us, yes we do buy from China so do larger stores. We buy from reputable and long serving companies enabling us to keep quality. You generally get what you pay for.
You wouldn’t believe how many Chinese companies contact us on a daily basis, some are less than impressive.
