Hmm. Perhaps try an inline diode on the earth as it might have a slight backfeed. Trailer electrics are always black magic.

I have read previously that discovery 3/4 are not compatible with LED trailer lights at all.

You seem to have confirmed that.

My mk7 Transit has an LED friendly towbar relay fitted, it is still fussy with particular led lights.

Yes I think this may be the case and it is what Landrover at Shrewsbury said , but surely going forward if true this is going to cause mahem as people buy new trailers that increasingly come with LEDs. I tried a local caravan dealer for help on landrover's advice as they said there are certain caravans that disco's can't work , I think they have to rewire them or something !
