Length of time UK farmers take to make, edit etc “You Tube”videos?

I very occasionally have a look at Olly Harrison’s,Andrew Ward and Harry’s Farm “You Tube”,videos. However long does it take them to actually film, edit and do what ever is needed to get the video to the stage that one can watch it on “ You Tube”.
Off topic , I guess when one adds music to videos that must put You Tube video making into a different level as regards time and effort .

A friend of mine who edits videos as part of his job reckons about 4 to 1, so for a 15 minute video he'd spend an hour editing. Likewise you need to film more than you use, out takes, shot that didn't quite work when you review them etc. I reckon they'd spend a good few hours (3-4) for a 20 minute video.

Harry's farm has a far better quality of editing than some of the other farm video channels on youtube. Harry also has interesting and informative things to say too.
I agree. At least Harry gives a few facts and figures which prove that that there is not much money in farming.

I think it depends how you define "editing".

Whether it's just clipping the start/end of segments and then joining them together in the order that you took them. Olly seems to be able to do this as a very quick process and fits it in around other things.

Or whether you're going to the Rolls Royce level of production. Some (non-farming) Youtubers go to this level and have a whole video editing team behind them.

Harry clearly has third party help on filming....perhaps just his wife but he has money/experience to be able to do more.

So...ill not be cheeky but how much detail do you need or want as i can explain it better that way...

I can do a 5 min edit or a few days edit...

Quick edit...

Many thanks, for posting.
I do wonder what type of audience a lot of videos are being aimed at and what their purpose is, I mention it as so many these days and yet more every week on any subject one can possibly think of.
So something for everyone and most a lot better than looking at scheduled TV programs.

Well see this is the difference...

I see so many now doing a blog/daily/opinion/I am right you are wrong/every single thing/or lets break something for drama videos now on farms and its what social media wants...

this is my youtube audience clearly broken down and i have 2.1 million views this year soo far.

As you mention something for everyone is correct...

If the subject is interesting, people will watch it regardless of quality. I strongly recommend all aspiring editors get themselves a copy of "Directing on Camera -- A checklist of Video and Film Techniques" by Harris Watts, published by Aavo, ISBN - 0 - 9507582 - 2 - 1. It was originally written as a check list for BBC Television students. My copy cost £10 but there will be second hand copies out there for pennies as it was a very popular book.

Would that be the Harry whose video of two talking heads in a tractor cab featured on TFF? I would prefer not to comment but then I wasn't really interested in the subject! There can be no better tutorial on video editing that watching TV ads, especially the ones you find amusing and remember. I like the Twix ad with the two bears eyeing up the campers. Or the little girl wanting a bar of Cadbury's chocolate for her mother's birthday. Simple, snappy, and getting the message across. 10 seconds is a long shot on video, and two talking heads in a tractor cab that ramble on...and on...and on.....

Takes me several hours to edit a 10-15 minute video. If I add music it can take me hours to decide on a song. Actual filming doesn't take that long, just a minute or two to stick a camera somewhere or talk into one. The drone is a bit different though as it kind of requires your undivided attention, flight time is usually 15 minutes or so.
