Lettuce is 95% water... or 5% dry matter silage is what 25% DM? so all being equal stock going to have to eat 5kg or lettuce to get the same dry matter intake as 1kg of silage.
They often till lettuce under if the field is too wet or the retailers slow up on sales and they go past the optimum growth stage. Disposing of them is not new. There will be a fair few root/veg and salad growers who have had to incorporate something that has gone to far to be worth selling. Retailers won't take them in a month of Sundays.
