Leyland 255 hydraulics

Topped the field today and after a break for a cuppa the 3-point link hydraulics stopped working. Tried putting a litre or so of universal oil in what l assume is the right filler plug - on top of the linkage assembly behind the seat - but made no difference. Any suggestions?

Obviously don't know how familiar you are with the tractor's controls... but presumably you disengaged the pto with the handclutch and moved the pto lever to the HYDS position? Did you release the handclutch again?
What's the oil level show on the dipstick? A litre won't do much if it's low.

I did disengage the pto, but l remember putting it in the forward position, not the middle one. That may well be the problem - put it down to advancing senility (mine and the tractor's). I'll flash the old girl up and try again. Where's this dipstick you mention?

Yes if the PTO lever is in the front position you’ll have no hydraulics, the dipstick is usually in the gearbox cover ware the main gearstick is

Had a 255 many moons ago can blatantly say I was glad to see it go, was a shed of a thing for breaking down or being finicky. Rear lift was not playing ball and wouldn’t lift anything heavy so off she went. Sadly spent it’s whole life on a Howard muck spreader before I got it.
