If I buy a 4 leg set rated at 6t, does that mean they’re rated for 1.5t per leg? Does that rating change at all if you use the shorteners?

Any suggestions on where to buy from would be appreciated as well

4x leg lifting Chain rating - For an overview check the 'Certex' website, 'Technical Guidance' section & look up their 'Chain Sling Load Chart' for factual detail of how it works regarding, chain size, angles, loading etc from a recognised UK organisation.

Any lifting equipment supplier will have chain slings available.

I'd think each chain is rated. I'd buy 2 sets of 2 chains and a big shackle to join if you need the 4 leg. Spare chains get in the way and annoying.

Evening, please see the following chart which I trust helps explain;.
As an example, if you have a 4 Leg 10mm Chain Sling, at upto 45 Degree this is rated at a maximum of 6.7T Working Load Limit on a symmetrical lift load, however, if you're using just one leg of that sling it is rated to 3.15T as a 90 Degree working load or two legs at upto 45 Degrees would be 4.15T rated.

Another piece of important information missing from that chart is a choke hitch.Hitching a chain back on itself derates the swl as well. 20% less rings a bell

Correct, between 20 and 25% reduction in swl on a choke hitch. Differing angles again come into play!
