Lime quarries in West of Scotland

Looking for quarries with a decent quality lime as close to Stranraer as possible? Anyone know of anything?

Grange quarry will haul quite far west into Galloway from the quarry at Annan and its good calcium lime.
I don't know if they will go as far as Stranraer.

About an hour and a half. A good company Grange, v helpful and being farmers themselves they understand the job.!

Never had lime from Annan outlast price I had it was the same as shap deliverd.or from East coast

Out of 3 samples from the nearest calcium lime suppliers, Shaps 'ground lime' is the finest of the lot.
Though it could be ground a little bit finer as it was, how would you say, the least lumpy of all 3...

Think there's a limestone quarry in N Ayrshire, but probably a similar distance to Stranraer from Annan. Not sure if its still working

Used Thomson's, grange and shap here, shap is the best but the dearest.....you pays your money.

Is the thing with lime , not that one week could be fine and the next week courser and finer from another supplier as the grinding surface wear out quickly ?

That would be Lugton lime near Beith.
Not sure if it's still open but didn't get a great reputation for quality.
Bell metal lime I heard it described
Mostly Shap lime used in Ayrshire.

Our last lime came out of Annan and was good and fine, be struggling to do Annan to Stranraer in much less than 2 hours in a wagon

Irish lads can do Dumfries to Stranraer in hour when there is a boat due!
It’s quite good quality lime at Annan, quite consistent.
